Welcome to Lead The Charge

Electric vehicles are the transport of the future and are set to revolutionise our lives.

With tens of thousands of sales predicted over the next few years, these green vehicles are not only good for the environment they’re incredibly cost effective to run too. Users pay no road tax, no servicing and fuel costs are 75% less than diesel. No wonder demand for the first vehicles has outstripped the supply.

North East England: front-runner in low carbon vehicle development

North East England is at the forefront of low carbon vehicle development and already has an international reputation in that field. The region has put in place a comprehensive infrastructure which includes manufacturing and battery development, research and developments, skills and training as well as a leading supply chain. Vehicle trials are taking place and of course Nissan will be manufacturing the Nissan LEAF at its Sunderland plant from 2013. Integral to all of this is ensuring a comprehensive charging infrastructure for the drivers of the future and that is why the North East is the first region in the UK to put this in place.

Making sure that drivers are never too far away from a charging post is essential - that’s why electric vehicle charging posts are popping up everywhere across the region. You’ll see them on streets, in car parks, at residential and commercial locations and at retail and leisure facilities in your area soon.

1,000 charging points will be in place by March 2013.
